Titus Lucretius Carus committed the philosophy of Epicurus to poem form in approximately 55 BC, and by its survival through the Dark Ages this work transmitted to an awakening world the knowledge of the atom! H.A.J. Munro, a Scottish-born professor at Cambridge University, produced the first modern English masterpiece of Lucretius in 1860. Many of his formulations remain the classic standard in Lucretian studies.
Cyril Bailey (1871-1957) was a British classical scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. Bailey's edition of Lucretius is the most up-to-date edition available in the public domain.
