I'm looking for fiction (books, audio books, movies, TV), which is suitable for minors (any target audience from young children to older teenagers).
It should model our good Epicurean lifestyle, which implies it should not promote sexism by how it portrays girls and women, and it should easily pass the Bechdel-Wallace test, which is: At least two female characters who have a conversation about something other than a man.

Note: I didn't read the books, but watched the BBC series (released 2019-2022), so my comments relate solely to that particular TV adaptation.
Downsides: It mentions concepts like "fate" and "destiny" a bunch of times, which I didn't like too much, especially because several of the heroes' trusted companions talk that way and "fate"/"destiny"/… are part of the story so much that the plot wouldn't work without it. This isn't too bad, because only select few people are mentioned as having such "destinies" and there is no pervasive sense of fatalism about it. Another downside are supernatural believes and superstitions being used successfully, such as traditional I Ching divination. In the story, their functioning is explained based on the particle physics which govern the fictional world, but it still bothers me, because I have seen variously how such superstitions are explained erroneously "based on physics" by people in the real world, too. I would have much preferred it if all, not just some, such instances of divination were based on clearly fictional objects/devices/behaviours. Most important and/or powerful figures are boys/men; of the few important and/or powerful girls/women all but two are either scheming/deceptive or magic their way using an innate superpower. Several ghastly scenes, horrible moments.
Upsides: It does a good job at showing dogmatism, especially religion, more especially christianism for what it is, and doesn't hold back with examples of all the numerous bad things that inevitably come with it (ignorance, corrupted power, violence, …). A whole number of other good, valuable points are illustrated well. Most of this happens by example, via various subplots, as part of the story, less so by explicit mention; I like that One particularly noteworthy aspect is that men are portrayed as feeling humans, not as stoic soldiers, who have hard experiences and vulnerable feelings, too. It contains several dilemmas and uncomfortable choices, which can offer much food for thought. Adults are correctly portrayed as mostly constant in their respective nature – only few have a slow, successive revelation and gradually change with time and effort. No miraculous overnight successes or invincible heroes. Instead of "fixing" bad people, the story emphasises surrounding oneself with those who are already good, even when that's hard, emotionally or otherwise. It makes a strong argument for having close personal friends and loved-ones, for seeking an ally even in the unlikely encounter, as well as for having one's circle of friends be embedded in a wider web of a good-natured community. Characters have good depth. Loved ones, friends and foes come in all colours, shapes and forms. Production, acting, directing, cinematography, …: pretty good. Some beautiful scenes, touching moments.
Conclusion: All in all it isn't perfect (what is?), but it offers a valuable story. I don't think the divination-related downside would be an issue for a child otherwise well-rooted in science, physics, and Epicurean philosophy. Likewise, I wouldn't expect "sin", "atonement" and similar things mentioned by the bad guys to be problems, because they're usually explicit and thus readily noticeable in Western culture. The "destiny"-related aspect is very prevalent in the West as I know it, but in a much subtler way than superstitions, which is why I'd have a little chat about it, to make sure the teenage viewer has no overt or lingering confusion regarding that. The latent sexism is no better or worse than average, which I consider bad. This TV adaptation is inappropriate below the age of 13-14 at least, especially due to the level of violence and horror.
Verdict: Emotional rollercoaster. Solid booster shot for teenagers who already have good immunity against ideology, dogma and supernatural believe. Not for the faint of heart.
