Hi Everyone Level 03 and above...next Friday night is the 20th!

September 20, 2024 - Twentieth Gathering Zoom - Agenda
-
-
Some reflections on the month of September:
Kids and college students are all back in school (and this gives a cultural feeling of a new year starting (scholastically at least).
Adults may be starting new projects at work or in their personal lives now that summer is over. And more group activities start up now, such as meet-ups, or other events.
Fall harvest time starts, especially for apples!
And also the fall retail push-marketing of pumpkin spice everything, love it or hate it...or just take an Epicurean self-sufficiency attitude...thank you very much but I already have all the spices I need in my own cupboard
.
Fall equinox arrives on September 22, 10:21am ET.
Some of the leaves on trees are just beginning to turn, and the nights are cooler, days are getting shorter, and it feels like a change is in the air.
************
Agenda for September 20th:
- Opening reading (commemoration reading for Epicurus/Metrodorus presented by Kalosyni)
- September highlighted Epicureans (presented by Cassius)
- Open Discussion
If anyone has suggestions for discussion topics, or for discussion on specific threads, please post in this thread
-
Tommorow dearest friends, is our monthly Zoom to commemorate the Twentieth!
Discussion is likely to include previous threads and posts of interest from the last few weeks (and we'll be hoping to take a break from discussing the nature of the gods).
Come see your fellow Epicurean students and discuss Epicurean philosophy!
Link has been sent out. If you have not yet attended and need to be added to the Zoom link message list, let us know.

The two names on the memorial calendar to mention tonight in addition to Epicurus and Metrodorus are:
SEP Epicurus
MetrodorusGaius Cassius Longinus
Quintos Horatius FlaccusWe'll also have a longer than normal "What's up with you part of the session. Sometimes I just ask everyone the question as a group and we are so polite that not everyone speaks up. Tonight we'll make a special effort to check in with everyone, since what we're doing on the twentieth is particularly devoted to community, rather than any single particular part of the philosophy. Every indication is that the event was set up to memorialize the founders personally, and it's only right that we spend time on our own personal updates as well.

Thanks to everyone who turned out for our monthly Zoom. It was great seeing everyone, and I enjoyed the discussion greatly. We had a total of eight in attendance.
This month, we gave more time for "check-in's" going around the circle for each person and sharing current thoughts (how we were doing, what we were up to, and current philosophical thoughts). This format was great for bringing up new discussion topics and ideas and also getting to know each other a little bit better. I enjoyed how this helped create a feeling of Epicurean community, and I am looking forward to our future Zoom meetings.

Yes I think we'll probably use this format from now on, rather than looking for special topics for the 20th to add to the memorials. We can do special topics at other times.
