I Promise To Avoid Revolutionary Politics

I will continue to highly recommend Nature's God by Matthew Stewart, who makes a compelling case that we have the Epicurean tradition to thank for representing secular interests at the formation of the American government. In particular, (besides Jefferson), he praises both Ethan Allen and his mentor Thomas Young, who helped organize the Boston Tea Party.

The only reservation I have with the "three tankards later" is that in the right circumstances it wouldn't take even one tankard! However I actually like the phrase because it adds sort of a "fun" aspect to the meme, and to the extent that alcohol leads us to lose "inhibitions" rather than lose good judgment, I think it's also accurate.
