- Article summarizing quotations from Philodemus "On Signs / On Methods of Inference" and Sextus Empiricus to information in Diogenes Laertius, Diogenes of Oinoanda, and Lucretius to create a general summary on Epicurean recommended methods of reasoning.
3. Ethics
- Article summarizing evidence to show that Cicero was wrong to allege that Epicurus limited the term "pleasure" to bodily pleasures, and showing that contrary to Cicero's assertion, Epicurus in fact held knowledge of literature and history and current events and poetry to be part of the goal of life as designated by the term "pleasure." This is a common allegation and would be very damaging if true - but it's not.
- Cicero "On Ends" Book 1:105-106: "What pleasure do you, O Torquatus, what pleasure does this Triarius derive from literature, and history, and the knowledge of events, and the reading of poets, and his wonderful recollection of such numbers of verses? And do not say to me, Why all these things are a pleasure to me. So, too, were those noble actions to the Torquati. Epicurus never asserts this in this manner; nor would you, O Triarius, nor any man who had any wisdom, or who had ever imbibed those principles."
